The Spanish Supreme Court has again ruled that the former prime minister, Felipe Gonzales, should not have to face charges over his alleged part in a campaign against Basque separatists in the 1980s, in which twenty-eight people were killed by unidentified right-wing death squads.
A former interior minister and other officials were convicted last year of involvement in what became known as the Dirty War.
The case against Mr Gonzales was reconsidered following the declassification of intelligence documents, but the Court decided that these provided no new evidence.
