In pictures: Turkey quake

Friday's quake measured 7.2 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was in the town of Duzce.

Hundreds of buildings were destroyed.

Rescue teams searched frantically in the rubble for thousands of people feared trapped.

A pregnant woman is pulled out of the debris. Rescuers had to amputate her hand in order to free her.

Survivors have had to endure freezing temperatures during the night.

The death toll is expected to rise as those trapped under debris are discovered.

The quake was the second to hit the region in three months.
