The art of Parkour

Parkour involves finding new ways of crossing an urban landscape. It requires strength and agility and should not be undertaken without training and guidance.

Tic Tac

1. The Parkour athlete strides towards the wall and leaps off his right leg

2. He uses his left foot to push off, turning mid-air to face the opposite wall

3. He uses his right foot and leg to absorb the impact as he catches hold of the wall

4. The athlete relies on his upper body strength and feet to pull himself up

5. He then brings his legs in quickly behind him and runs on

Cat Leap

1. Leading with his right foot, the Parkour athlete steps up and springs off obstacle

2. In mid-air he fixes on his point of contact and prepares to grip the opposite wall

3. The athlete absorbs the impact of the catch with his feet and knees

4. He pulls himself up - using his feet against the wall to propel himself upwards

5. He brings his feet up behind him and runs on

Landing Roll

1. The Parkour athlete leaps off the edge of the roof

2. He maintains balance mid-flight by extending his arms

3. On impact, the athlete bends his knees and rolls forward on his right shoulder

4. He follows the roll through onto his left knee

5. Using his hands and right foot, the athlete pushes up and runs forward
