Multi-ethnic police force in Bosnian town of Brcko

A multi-ethnic police force has been inaugurated in the northern Bosnian town of Brcko at a ceremony attended by international officials.

A senior American official, Robert Farrand, said the re-establishment of the force -- made up of Serb, Croat and Muslim officers -- marked a new start in ethnic co-operation.

But hundreds of Serbs booed and heckled as cars, computers and other equipment were handed over to the force commander.

Serbs form the overwhelming majority in Brcko since Croats and Moslems were forcibly evicted from the town during the Bosnian war.
