Chechen journalists reported freed in Daghestan

Reports from the southern Russian republic of Daghestan say a group of Chechen journalists has been released by a local militia which seized them last week.The seven journalists, working for Russian and international media organisations, disappeared while on assignment.

The militia group said it was holding them in an attempt to use them to exchange for a number of Daghestani policemen who were allegedly held by a Chechen paramilitary group.

The Russian news agency Itar-Tasssays all seven journalists were released without conditions early today
