Opposition protests in Serbia

Opposition protests in Serbia

The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo, Bishop Artemije, has said the Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic, should stand trial before the International War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague.

Bishop Artemije was speaking in the western Serbian town of Valjevo at the latest in a series of anti-government protests organised by the Alliance for Change, which is calling for Mr Milosevic to resign.

The Bishop said if Serbia was to be resurrected and become democratic, it was important for Serbs to unite to ensure the removal of President Milosevic.

He added that the Church supported every activity that would lead to the removal of Mr Milosevic and his government.
