One of the main opposition leaders in Serbia, Vuk Draskovic, says he will join the campaign of street protests to force the resignation of the Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic.
Mr Draskovic, who leads the Serbian Renewal Movement, told the BBC that his first rally would be in the central town of Kragujevac on Saturday. Opinion polls suggest the Serbian Renewal Movement is the only opposition party with a substantial following and Mr Draskovic's move is seen as a substantial boost to the campaign to oust Mr Milosevic. In another indication of the mood of resentment in Serbia, an anti-government rally was held in the western town of Valjevo.
As speakers called for the arrest of President Milosevic, the demonstrators smashed windows of the town hall and jostled with police.
