Smuggled Moroccan dies in Spain

A Moroccan man has died of suffocation as his relatives tried to smuggle him into Spain hidden in a car, police say.

The body of the 25-year-old was found in the car's roof luggage rack in the southern Algeciras region, police said.

A Moroccan couple - who have a German residency - were held for allegedly causing death by negligence.

The couple had fixed up an air supply into the luggage compartment, but the airpipe became blocked when they closed it, a police spokesman said.

The would-be immigrant is thought to be a brother-in-law of one of the arrested.

The accused man and woman, aged 41 and 24 - whose identities were not released - are expected to appear in court later.
