Turkey tries to quit smoking

Turkey has become the latest country to tighten curbs on tobacco smoking.

Under new Turkish laws now coming into force, there will be fines for those who fail to use special smoking areas in airports, stations and public offices.

And there are new restrictions on tobacco advertising.

The BBC Ankara Correspondent says measures last year banning smoking on public transport and in cinemas have often been ignored, and the number of Turks who smoke is continuing to increase.
