Mr Delanoe, a socialist and one of France's few openly gay politicians, was stabbed in the stomach in the early hours of 6 October at City Hall during an overnight public event.
Opening a city council session, Mr Delanoe thanked his team for their support and work during his convalescence.
"I appreciate the fact that we lived through this moment together," Mr Delanoe said.
His suspected assailant, 39-year-old Azedine Berkane, was arrested at the event and is still being questioned over the attack.
He is quoted as telling police that he hates politicians and homosexuals.
Lighter load
Mr Delanoe made his first official appearance at Armistice Day commemorations a week ago.
He told reporters he plans to ease back into work with a slimmer workload and remain under doctors' observation during the next few weeks.
He will also seek light police protection during public appearances - the mayor often mingles with Parisians in city events.
He enjoys widespread popularity in the city.
One of his initiatives involved turning part of the Seine's riverbanks into a free urban beach last summer.
