Second Kosovo Albanian leader shot in days

Second Kosovo Albanian leader shot in days

A close aide to the main ethnic Albanian leader in Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, has been shot and seriously wounded.

The aide, Sabri Hamiti, was shot twice in the Kosovo capital, Pristina.

It's not known who carried out the attack.

On Monday, another supporter of Mr Rugova, the defence spokesman of the Kosovo government-in-exile, Ahmet Krasniqi was shot and killed in the Albanian capital Tirana. His colleagues accused the Yugoslav secret services of the murder; observers say Mr Rugova's supporters may be under attack from Kosovo's main armed group, the KLA, because they are trying to set up a rival paramilitary force.
