Missile defence for Genoa summit

The Italian authorities are bringing in surface-to-air missiles to boost security for next week's G8 summit in Genoa.

A government spokesman called it a precautionary move against any terrorist attack from the air.

Thousands of anti-globalisation demonstrators are preparing to converge on Genoa.

The port city is being turned into a huge security fortress, with military aircraft and naval ships on alert, and armoured vehicles, bomb disposal squads and thousands of riot police on the streets.
