Bixente Lizarazu

Bixente Lizarazu
A pacy and enterprising left-back, Lizarazu made his international debut as long ago as 1992.

He played every one of France's games in Euro 96 and France 98, drawing comparisons with the legendary Manuel Amoros.

Although his time at Bayern has been badly disrupted by injury, he remains one of the key players in the national team, able to play in either a flat back four or bombing forward in the wing-back role.

With Lizarazu on the left and Lilian Thuram on the right, the French possess arguably the most potent and dependable full-back combination in the world game.

However, the recent performances of Vincent Candela have been putting increasing pressure on Lizarazu's place.

He spent the early part of his career with Bordeaux, where he reached the 1996 Uefa Cup final, before moving to Germany a few months later.
