Bowie offers fans 'missing' song

Bowie at the Beeb
Rock star David Bowie will offer fans who bought his latest album the chance to download a song that failed to get on the CD.

The track, a version of his classic 1970s song Ziggy Stardust, was omitted from the Bowie at the Beeb CD due to a technical error.

The album features songs recorded at BBC sessions between May 1968 and June 1972, and was due to include two different versions of the song.

Instead the CD was pressed with the same recording of the song included twice, and an estimated 250,000 copies were distributed before the error was noticed.

How it works

Fans who want the second version of Ziggy Stardust need to install free "jukebox" software onto their computers to be able to listen to the song.

They must then insert the CD into their CD-ROM drive and once it is verified, a compressed MP3 version of the track can be downloaded.

The download facility is being provided by online music provider MusicMatch in collaboration with a company specialising in unique music recognition technology.

The album was initially released as a three-CD limited edition with the third CD containing Bowie's live set from a BBC concert recorded in summer 2000.
