Spice Girls unite for chart assault

The Spice Girls
The Spice Girls are to release their first single for nearly two years in October.

The foursome - who have all been pursuing solo careers in recent times - have re-united in the studio to produce a double A-sided single.

Holler Holler/Let Love Lead The Way will be their first single together since Goodbye in December 1998.

"We are stronger after being apart for a while and we are very happy to have been back in the studio," said Sporty Spice Melanie C.

The single - out on 23 October - will be followed by the release of the Spice Girls' third album on 6 November. The title is being kept secret.

Victoria Beckham and Dane Bowers

Since making their debut in 1996, the girls have sold 35m albums as a group.

As solo artists, however, they have had varying degrees of success over the last couple of years.

On their own

Posh Spice Victoria Beckham was the last of the four to try her luck at conquering the charts last week with when she sang vocals on Out Of Your Mind - a track by Truesteppers and Dane Bowers.

However, despite a massive publicity drive, Beckham was pipped to the top spot by Spiller's club anthem Groovejet (If This Ain't Love).

Baby Spice Emma Bunton also failed to have a number one with her solo offering with Tin Tin Out last November.

Ironically, Bunton was deprived of the top spot by former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.

But solo success has come the way of Melanie C and Scary Spice Melanie B.

Mel B had a hit with I Want You Back with Missy Elliot. She also completed a song for the soundtrack to the Austin Powers sequel, The Spy Who Shagged Me.

Mel C has just enjoyed her second number one success with I Turn To You. She was ousted from the lead position after just one week - by Spiller.
