Bruce Lee family approves biopics

Bruce Lee's older sister and younger brother have authorised a series of biographical films about the late martial arts star.

Phoebe and Robert Lee said they wanted to produce a historically accurate account of their brother's life.

The pair were speaking at a ceremony in Beijing on Monday marking the 36th anniversary of Lee's death.

Lee, whose films included Enter the Dragon and Fists of Fury, died of swelling of the brain at the age of 32.

Producer Manfred Wong said at least three films were planned, with the first focusing on Lee's teenage years.

Wong added he wanted to focus on the late actor's personality in the trilogy.

"There will be kung fu, but more importantly, we want to portray the real Bruce Lee. What is the real Bruce Lee like? He was very humorous. He was very obedient to his parents. He was very kind to his family," he said.

Museum

Robert Lee said he wanted to give an authoritative account of his brother's life saying: "We've read many books and seen many movies about Bruce Lee, but there are many inaccuracies in them."

Phoebe Lee added: "I'm more than 70 years old. I want do something for my younger brother - to promote Bruce Lee's life story."

Meanwhile, Hong Kong officials have launched a design competition to turn Lee's former home into a museum for the star.

Yu Pang-lin, who is the house's current owner, said he wanted the museum to include a memorial hall, a library, a kung fu studio and a film archive.

Lee's daughter, Shannon Lee, and a panel of architects and town planners will judge the design competition.

The winners will be announced in November or December, the Hong Kong government said.
