S Club reach for the top

Success after success for S Club 7
Teen pop sensation S Club 7 have rocketed to the top of the charts with their second album, simply called 7.

The album knocked Tom Jones off the top of the chart to give the group yet another success.

We have had a fantastic year. The support from our fans has been unbelievable.
Paul Cattermole

The group's Paul Cattermole said: "The millennium has completely overwhelmed us.

"We have had a fantastic year, the support from our fans has been unbelievable. We can't thank them enough.

"When you're up against huge acts like Whitney Houston, Britney Spears and Bon Jovi, getting to number one feels even more special.," he said.

Record of success

This is just the latest success for the boys and girls of S Club 7, who were named as best newcomers at the Brits in March this year

The group kicked off their musical career with the number one single, Bring It All Back, in June 1999.

They were the biggest-selling singles artists for the past 12 months with 1.9 million sales, ahead of the Vengaboys' 1.5 million

Currently the band have the highest-rated children's show on British TV with LA 7 on BBC One, while the show that made them household names, Miami 7, has been sold to 100 countries and viewed by 90 million people worldwide.

New top single

In the singles charts, Sonique was knocked off the top after a three-week reign by Black Legend with You See The Trouble With Me.

The song features a soundalike of soul legend Barry White, Elroy "Spoonface" Powell.

White failed to give the go-ahead for a sample of his voice to be used on the track.
