Chat show host Paul O'Grady has suffered a bite on his arm after being attacked by an adder at his Kent home.
The 53-year-old fended off the two-foot reptile with a broom after it slithered out of a pile of firewood.
O'Grady told the Daily Mirror he saw two puncture marks on his arm which had blood gushing out of them after the snake attacked him on Sunday.
His spokesman said the entertainer was "absolutely fine" after the incident in Aldington, near Ashford.
O'Grady was able to host his show as usual on Monday.
Two-legged snakes
He told the Mirror: "I didn't realise I was bitten at first but I looked at my right arm and there was blood gushing down from it.
"I saw two puncture marks and I realised I had been bitten and it must have been a snake.
"It really started to hurt and then I saw a snake on the logs. I think it had crawled from inside the hollow of the log.
"I've come up against few snakes in my time but normally of the two-legged variety," joked the performer, who was formally made an MBE by the Prince of Wales in October.
O'Grady called his local hospital when he realised he had been bitten by the venomous snake, but was told his injury would not be fatal.
He was told to monitor the swelling and come into the casualty department only if it deteriorated.
The adder is the UK's only native poisonous snake, and has a bite which can cause nausea and dizziness.
