Kung Fu Panda heads Annies list

Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu Panda has been shortlisted for 16 prizes at the International Animated Film Society Awards - or Annies - including best animated feature.

The cartoon film, featuring the voices of Angelina Jolie and Dustin Hoffman, beat Wall-E with seven nominations.

Both movies are longlisted for an Oscar, with Wall-E considered to be the current frontrunner.

Prizes for the 36th Annies will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on 30 January.

Career award

The other animations vying for the main prize are Bolt, $9.99 and Israeli documentary Waltz With Bashir.

The Simpsons and King of The Hill are also in the running for best animated television production.

Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park will be among the luminaries in the animation world to receive a special honour for his career achievements at the awards gala.

At last year's ceremony, Ratatouille was the clear winner with nine prizes.

It was nominated for five Academy Awards and went on to scoop the prize for best animated feature.
