Bafta honour for Chuckle Brothers

The Chuckle Brothers

Entertainers The Chuckle Brothers have been honoured with a special award at the Children's Baftas in London.

The real-life brothers first hit the limelight in 1974, when they won talent show New Faces. Their Chucklevision show has been running for 21 years.

After collecting their award from Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies, they described it as "a pat on the back from the business".

Other winners included Wall-E for best film. CBBC won channel of the year.

"It's like a pat on the back from the business that we've been working in all these years, it's a really nice, warm feeling," The Chuckle Brothers - Paul, 61, and Barry, 63 - said ahead of the ceremony.

"It's 45 years since we began as a professional double act and before that we were performing for friends and family in the backyard."

Host Keith Chegwin described the pair as "blooming fantastic" and said: "I'm going to take responsibility for getting them a Bafta because when I was at the party to nominate the funniest people in television I said the Chuckle Brothers."

Waste-collecting animated robot Wall-E fought off stiff competition from Ratatouille, Stardust and Horton Hears A Who! for the best film award and Lego Batman won best video game.

CBBC shows took home awards including best drama, factual and entertainment programmes for The Revenge Files of Alistair Fury, Serious Andes and Hedz respectively.

Hannah Montana won the Bafta Kids' Vote, decided by children aged seven to 14. The cross-category poll attracted nearly 200,000 online votes.
