Damages awarded to actress Miller

Sienna Miller

Actress Sienna Miller has won £53,000 from a photographic agency over claims of harassment.

Miller, 26, sued Big Pictures UK Limited and founder Darryn Lyons over what she called an "intolerable" campaign by their photographers.

The agency agreed to pay £37,000 damages plus legal costs.

The agency also agreed not to pursue or follow the Layer Cake star, and said it would no longer camp outside her home or that of her family.

The settlement also covered taking pictures of Miller in office blocks or buildings not open to the public, or where she has a reasonable expectation of privacy, but it did not include entering or leaving bars, restaurants or nightclubs.

It also did not include public footpaths or highways, unless the actress was visibly distressed or upset.

'Breached' human rights

The agency also agreed not to republish or syndicate 23 "pursuit" photos, taken in London, Los Angeles, Ibiza and elsewhere between June and September this year, which were involved in the case.

Miller's lawyer, Mark Thomson, said the agency's behaviour had breached her human rights, news agency Reuters reported.

"We hope that people will back off my client as a result of this"

He added that Friday's ruling could have implications for other celebrities.

"It's not a binding court ruling but it may well encourage other celebrities and those followed in such a way to take action," he said.

"We hope that people will back off my client as a result of this," he was quoted as saying.

He emphasised that Miller was not objecting in principle to the taking of photographs but to the manner in which they were taken.

Miller has starred in movies such as Alfie and Factory Girl and is the ex-girlfriend of Jude Law.

Two weeks ago, she accepted £35,000 in damages from two tabloid newspapers over claims they breached her privacy.

The star had sued the Sun and News of the World over a series of "intrusive articles and photos" published in June and July.
