Il Divo's Promise soars to No 1

Il Divo

Operatic quartet Il Divo have beaten Stereophonics to claim this week's number one album with The Promise.

It is the third time the group, created by impresario Simon Cowell, have topped the album charts.

Welsh rockers Stereophonics had to be content with a number two placing for hits compilation Decade In The Sun.

Cowell's influence is also felt in the singles chart, with The X Factor finalists' charity track Hero continuing its stay at the top.

It is two years since the last release from Il Divo, Siempre, reached number two in the album chart.

Previous albums Il Divo and Ancora, in 2004 and 2005 respectively, both reached number one.

Girls Aloud's Out of Control falls to number three, with Kings of Leon's Only By The Night rising to number four and Pink's Funhouse slipping to number five.

Irish singer Enya's And Winter Came is a new entry at number six, while Christina Aguilera's best-of compilation, Keeps Gettin' Better, makes its debut at number 10.

In the singles chart, US rapper TI's collaboration with Rihanna, Live Your Life, enters the top 10 at number two, while Killers have a new entry with Human at number four.
