O'Neal drug court case postponed

Ryan and Redmond O'Neal

Ryan O'Neal and his son, Redmond, will not have to enter pleas on drug charges until January after their court case was postponed.

The star, 67, and his son, 23, face charges of possession of methamphetamine after a police search of their Malibu home in September.

Thursday's plea hearing was postponed after their lawyers asked for more time to review evidence.

They are now due to appear in court in Los Angeles on 9 January.

Redmond O'Neal is also charged with possessing drug paraphernalia and illegally possessing pepper spray.

Police conducted the search under the terms of his probation for an earlier drug possession case.

"It's unfortunate that these charges were filed because these drugs did not belong to Ryan O'Neal and he should not be prosecuted for it"

The 23-year-old pleaded guilty in June to possessing heroin and methamphetamine and driving under the influence, and was placed on probation for three years.

Last month, Ryan O'Neal's lawyer, Mark Wersman, said any drugs found did not belong to his client.

"It's unfortunate that these charges were filed because these drugs did not belong to Ryan O'Neal and he should not be prosecuted for it," he said.

Ryan O'Neal is best known for the 1970 film Love Story, for which he was nominated for an Oscar.

Redmond is his son from a relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett.
