Corr to make London stage debut

Corrs singer Andrea Corr is to make her London stage debut at the Old Vic, the theatre has announced.

The Irish musician will star in Dancing at Lughnasa, which is due to begin at the theatre next February.

Corr, who scored several hits with her musical siblings, has acted in films, winning a minor US award in 2005.

The Old Vic's artistic director Kevin Spacey is to direct Complicit as part of the theatre's upcoming season, a new play written by Joe Sutton.

'Great moment'

Both Complicit and Dancing at Lughnasa, Brian Friel's tale of five sisters living in 1930s rural Ireland, will be staged in-the-round at the theatre.

Oscar-winning film-maker Sam Mendes will make his Old Vic debut to direct two classics, The Cherry Orchard and The Winter's Tale. Sam Mendes

William Shakespeare's play has been reinterpreted by playwright Tom Stoppard, while both productions will feature Transatlantic casts including US actor Ethan Hawke.

Spacey said the upcoming season was full of "really interesting productions".

"I couldn't be happier that we've attracted such a terrific cast to Dancing at Lughnasa, and we finally get to welcome Sam Mendes to The Old Vic, which will be a great moment for audiences and actors alike," he added.

The 24 Hour Plays Gala will also return, which sees actors and directors create six short new plays in just a day.
