Palin's mimic 'glues down ears'

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin

US comic Tina Fey, who has been winning rave reviews for her portrayal of Sarah Palin, has admitted she glues down her ears to perfect the transformation.

Fey, who plays the Republican vice-presidential candidate on TV's Saturday Night Live, told US magazine TV Guide the ear-gluing is "one of the tricks".

She added she was initially unconvinced of her resemblance to Mrs Palin.

Fey, who also writes and stars in US comedy 30 Rock, appeared with Palin on last week's Saturday Night Live.

'Fair and gentle'

The comic actress admitted that she became "maybe a little" more convinced of her similarity to the governor of Alaska during the Republican Party convention last month.

The 38-year-old said she had worried people would think her impersonation of Mrs Palin was not entirely accurate. Sarah Palin

"I expected people to be like, 'Ahhh, we thought it'd be better than that,'" she said.

"I stand by the pieces as both fair and quite gentle," added the award-winning performer of her portrayal.

Fey's impersonations have doubled the ratings for the long-running TV show, and have been watched by millions of viewers on the internet.

On the weekend edition of Saturday Night Live, Fey appeared in Mrs Palin's trademark red suit jacket and rimmed glasses at a fake news conference before being replaced by the politician.

Mrs Palin went on to deliver the show's famous opening line: "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night."
