Jury selection starts for Spector

Phil Spector

Jury selection has begun for the murder retrial of music producer Phil Spector, who is accused of killing actress Lana Clarkson at his mansion five years ago.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Paul asked the initial group of 18 if they could be fair and impartial.

"What we do not want... is people with an agenda," he said.

Last year's trial ended with the jury deadlocked. Lawyers for Mr Spector claim Ms Clarkson, who was shot, committed suicide.

Mr Spector is charged with second-degree murder, but has always denied he had anything to do Ms Clarkson's death.

He has been free on $1m (£570,000) bail since the incident at his Los Angeles mansion in 2003.

Jury selection is expected to last the rest of the week.
