Nick Cave to present Turner Prize

Nick Cave

Singer Nick Cave will announce this year's Turner Prize winner.

The Bad Seeds frontman follows in the footsteps of Madonna and actor Dennis Hopper in presenting the contemporary art award.

Four artists have been shortlisted for this year's prize, to be announced at Tate Britain in London on 1 December.

The Turner Prize exhibition features a mannequin perched on the toilet and scenes of a woman smashing china tea cups to the floor.

The Australian singer, 51, founded Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in the early 1980s.

Since then Cave has published a novel, poetry, and was screenwriter for film The Proposition.

His biggest hit to date is 1995's Where The Wild Roses Grow, a duet with Kylie Minogue.

He is currently working on the soundtrack for The Road, a film based on the novel by Cormack McCarthy.

This year's Turner prize nominees are Polish-born Goshka Macuga, Runa Islam, who was born in Bangladesh, Cathy Wilkes, from Glasgow and Londoner Mark Leckey.
