Wonder dismisses housefire claims

Stevie Wonder

Motown legend Stevie Wonder has dismissed reports that his home burnt down in a wildfire in the foothills around Los Angeles earlier this week.

The New York Post reported on Thursday that Wonder's home had caught on fire and all his musical memorabilia had gone up in flames.

"I'm grateful to say that my house was not burnt down in the fire," said the musician in a statement.

The blaze in the San Fernando Valley destroyed 19 homes.

"I extend my sympathies to anyone who may have been touched by this horrendous event," added Wonder.

Wonder's spokeswoman Shelley Selover said the singer does not even have a house in the immediate area hit by the fire.

Wonder, 57, whose hits include Superstition and Happy Birthday, recently performed in the UK as part of a European tour.

He has won 25 Grammy Awards for his work.
