Michael Palin will tell the story of four men who died on the final day of World War I in a BBC Two documentary.
The presenter used new research to trace four men - from Britain, France, Canada and America - who died shortly before the ceasefire in November 1918.
He also visited the battlefields of northern France and Belgium, and found the grave of his great-uncle Harry, who died in the Battle of Somme in 1916.
Palin's film coincides with the 90th anniversary of the end of the war.
It will be shown as part of the Timewatch series at 2000 GMT on 1 November.
The former Monty Python star said: "The First World War has been so firmly etched in my mind since my schooldays that this Timewatch programme seemed a quite natural thing to be involved with.
"It may be a little different in tone from my usual offerings, but in a small way it was as important to me as anything I've ever done."
