Joss Stone to star in the Tudors

Singer Joss Stone is to play Anne of Cleves in the third season of The Tudors, the BBC has confirmed.

It will be the first TV acting role for the 22-year-old, who made her debut in fantasy film Eragon in 2006.

The Emmy-winning series, produced by Showtime and aired on BBC Two, chronicles the reign of Henry VIII, played by Jonathan Rhys Myers.

Stone, who has scored hits with You Had Me and Super Duper Love, has sold over 10 million albums worldwide

She has also won two Brit Awards and one Grammy.

Pushing boundaries

The third series of the Tudors will follow the King as he weds third Queen Jane Seymour, played by Anita Briem, and then Anne of Cleves. The Tudors

A daughter of a German nobleman, Anne was betrothed to Henry in a marriage treaty after the King was shown a portrait of her.

Upon Anne's arrival to England, Henry was disappointed with her physical appearance and their marriage was soon annulled.

Stone has just finished filming British romantic comedy Snappers, in which she plays lesbian entertainment manager Stephanie.

Speaking previously about the role, the singer-songwriter said: "I just wanted to challenge myself. There are things in the film that are going to really push the boundaries, and that excites me."

In addition to appearing in the movie she has also produced and performed the film's soundtrack.
