Kimmel and Silverman end romance

Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman

US comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman have split up after five years together.

Kimmel, 41, hosts a late-night ABC talk show while Silverman has her own show on cable TV network Comedy Central.

Earlier this year, a clip from Kimmel's show of Silverman, 37, singing with Matt Damon about a fake affair became a worldwide hit on the internet.

Kimmel responded with a video declaring an affair with Damon's best friend Ben Affleck. Both were watched by millions.

Silverman's video featured her and Damon singing together in a hotel suite about their pretend affair.

That followed a running joke on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in which the host would end his show by apologising to Damon for "running out of time" - implying that he had been dropped from the running order.

Kimmel's response video co-starred a host of Hollywood A-listers including Affleck, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford and Cameron Diaz.
