Patrick Swayze 'responding well'

Patrick Swayze

Actor Patrick Swayze has said he is responding well to treatment for pancreatic cancer.

"I am continuing treatment and the great news is I continue to respond well," the Dirty Dancing star told People Magazine.

He has been undergoing treatment at Stanford University Medical Centre in California.

The 55-year-old's agent confirmed the star had been diagnosed with the illness in March.

In a statement, Swayze told People he and his wife, Lisa, had been travelling back and forth between LA and their ranch in New Mexico and were "enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves".

"This past weekend, we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa's birthday, where I took her jewellery shopping and were able to find her something really special and much deserved!" he added.

The star made his first public appearance since his diagnosis at a basketball match in LA last week.
