No drug charges for Amy Winehouse

Singer Amy Winehouse will not face charges over a video that purported to show her smoking a crack cocaine pipe, police have confirmed.

She was interviewed under caution by police in east London after the footage was posted online in January.

"The Crown Prosecution Service has now reviewed the case and no further action is being taken," a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.

"Amy is pleased to be able to move on," her spokesman said.

"She particularly looks forward to seeing her fans again at eagerly-awaited festival performances this summer."

Matter closed

Winehouse, 24, was arrested at Limehouse police station on 7 May in connection with the alleged possession of a controlled drug, police said.

She had been bailed to return later this month, but the matter has now been closed.

The video, posted online by The Sun newspaper, was said to have been filmed at her home.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the footage itself did not establish whether the substances were illegal drugs.

"In the absence of any forensic opportunity or reliable evidence from any witness... we concluded we could not establish to the high criminal standard of proof required in a criminal court that they were controlled drugs," it said.

Last month, the singer was cautioned by police after admitting a common assault after an incident in Camden, north London.

Winehouse is due to play a number of festivals across Europe this summer, starting with Portugal's Rock In Rio - In Lisbon event in May.

In the UK, she is playing at T in the Park, V Festival and Bestival, while she is also due at Ireland's Oxegen and Rock en Seine in Paris.
