Driving ban for Nickelback singer

Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger has been banned from motoring for a year after being convicted of drink-driving in the Canadian city of Vancouver.

The 33-year-old had almost twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he was stopped by police.

He had been speeding in his Lamborghini at the time, in June 2006.

Speaking after leaving court, Kroeger said that "everyone makes mistakes". His lawyer, Marvin Stern, added they planned to appeal against the decision.

Kroeger's defence team had argued during the trial that police officers infringed his rights in the way they took his breath test.

And Mr Stern said afterwards that the case had been an intrusion into the star's life.

As well as the ban, Kroeger - who has been inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame - was fined C$600 (£298).
