Mighty Boosh to stage music gig

Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt, stars of the BBC series The Mighty Boosh, have signed up to stage a music and comedy festival based on the cult show.

Tickets for the event, which is taking place at The Hop Farm in Tonbridge, Kent on 5 July, are already on sale.

Fielding, who co-writes the show and plays Vince Noir, said: "We've never played a music festival before."

The full line-up for the open-air gig will be announced shortly. The latest series featured rock band The Horrors.

Promoters Vince Power and Phil McIntyre said: "We thought long and hard about putting on a comedy festival and convinced The Mighty Boosh that they were the right choice for the first major open-air comedy festival of its kind."

Fielding and Barratt created the idea of the show in a north London pub in the 1990s and performed several shows based around their surreal characters at the Edinburgh Fringe festival.

The BBC commissioned a six-part comedy series for Radio 4 in 2001, and the show transferred television on BBC Three in 2004.

That same year, the pair were nominated for a British comedy award, and they have won best TV show at the NME awards for the last two years.
