Velvet Revolver part with Weiland

Rock band Velvet Revolver have split with singer Scott Weiland over what they called his "erratic behaviour".

Guitarist Slash said in a statement that Weiland's "personal problems have forced us to move on".

The 40-year-old has been arrested several times on drug-related matters, and denied driving under the influence of drugs in court last month.

Weiland is expected to play a series of concerts with the Stone Temple Pilots, who have recently reformed.

Denied entry

The band's appearance at the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio next month will mark their first concerts together since 2001.

Plans for a full tour during the summer are expected to be announced next week.

Slash, formerly a member of Guns N' Roses, added in the statement: "This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either."

Following the break-up of the Stone Temple Pilots, Weiland became the lead singer of Grammy-winning band Velvet Revolver.

The band had to alter its schedules to accommodate Weiland's court appearances and spells in rehab.

In 2007, a tour of Japan was scrapped after the group were denied entry visas to perform in the country.

Weiland is due to appear in court again later this week for a pre-trial hearing after denying driving under the influence of drugs after an incident last November.
