Singer Weiland denies drug charge

The Velvet Revolver singer, 40, was stopped by police in November 2007 after he crashed his car on a Los Angeles freeway.

The singer, who faces up to a year in prison if found guilty because of a previous conviction, was arrested after refusing to take a sobriety test.

Mr Weiland, who was not in court, is due back on 4 April.

The former Stone Temple Pilots singer, now a member of Velvet Revolver with former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, entered his plea through his lawyer.

Mr Weiland has a history of drug problems and has been arrested several times on drug-related charges, the last time in 2003.

He was later sentenced to attend a six-month drug programme after pleading no contest to driving under the influence.
