Brits singles shortlist unveiled

Mark Ronson Hoosiers, Leona Lewis, Mark Ronson, Mika and Take That have made the shortlist for British single of the year at Wednesday's Brit Awards.

The final five were whittled down from 10 by the public, and lines have now opened for the final stage of voting.

Worried About Ray by Hoosiers is up against Bleeding Love by Lewis, the UK's biggest-selling song of 2007.

Ronson has been included for Valerie, while Grace Kelly by Mika and Take That's Shine completed the nominees.

Full details of the voting procedure have been outlined on the official website for the awards.

But the final shortlist has angered the Kaiser Chiefs, whose single Ruby was knocked out in the early stages of voting.

"Everyone knows Ruby is the best single," singer Ricky Wilson told BBC 6 Music.

"If you are gonna whittle them down to five, you'd think Ruby woud be in there wouldn't you?

"I am just a bit annoyed."

Lavish set

Meanwhile, organisers of the Brits have confirmed that Doctor Who star David Tennant and Lord of the Rings actor Sir Ian McKellan will be among the celebrities presenting awards on Wednesday.

Leona Lewis R&B singer Kelly Rowland, Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto, actor James Nesbitt and BBC Radio 1 breakfast DJ Chris Moyles are also lined up to announce the winners.

There will also be two stages at Earls Court in west London to mark the theme of "glam versus punk".

The glam stage will feature golden drapes and a curtain of lights, with a ripped Union Jack on the punk stage.

Between the two will be thrones on which the show's presenters, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, will sit.

These will be the centrepieces of a mansion-style set, designed to look partly like the Addams Family's mansion and partly to reflect David and Victoria Beckham's home, dubbed "Beckingham Palace".
