Friel 'to star' in Ferrell film

Anna Friel Former Brookside TV star Anna Friel will star opposite Will Ferrell in adventure fantasy Land of the Lost, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Friel, 31, nominated for a best comedy actress Golden Globe for US show Pushing Daisies, will play Ferrell's love interest in the Universal film.

The film is an adaptation of the 1970s US TV show of the same name.

In the movie, comedian Ferrell will play a palaeontologist who is transported back to prehistoric times.

The screenplay for Land of the Lost was completed before the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike.

In September, it was announced that Ferrell would be starring in the film and that Brad Silberling would direct.

Silberling's previous films include Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring Jim Carrey.

Last month, Friel, who now lives in LA, told the BBC she stayed sane by surrounding herself with British actors.
