Actress Lohan is sent to mortuary

Lindsay Lohan Actress Lindsay Lohan is being sent to a mortuary as part of her punishment for a drink-driving offence.

The two four-hour mortuary days are part of a court-ordered programme to demonstrate the real-life consequences of drinking and driving.

Ms Lohan has also spent two months in a rehabilitation clinic, her lawyer told a court hearing in Los Angeles.

The 21-year-old Mean Girls star admitted to charges of drunken driving and cocaine possession last year.

Ms Lohan's lawyer was speaking in court for a progress report on whether the actress was fulfilling the terms of a plea bargain she agreed to in August 2007.

Under the terms of Ms Lohan's deal, she was placed on probation for three years, required to serve a 24-hour jail sentence, complete an 18-month alcohol education programme and perform 10 days of community service.

So far, she has served 84 minutes in jail, spent two months in rehab and done some community service.

She must also spend two days working in a hospital emergency unit to complete the court's requirements.

Ms Lohan's lawyers will be due back in court on 15 July for another progress report.
