Beckham tops worst dressed list

Fashion critic Richard Blackwell, who has compliled the poll every year since 1960, said Beckham stepped out in "one skinny-mini monstrosity after another".

Singer Amy Winehouse's trademark beehive and tattoos helped earn her second place in the list.

"Exploding beehives above, tacky polka-dots below," Mr Blackwell said. Actress Mary-Kate Olsen was in third.

Mr Blackwell described the former teen star as "a tattered toothpick trapped in a hurricane".

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie followed at number four, with former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson in fifth place.

Actress Eva Green, who is best known for starring in Casino Royale and The Golden Compass, took sixth place.

Avril Lavigne, who has overhauled her image since bursting onto the pop scene in 2002, featured at number seven, with actress and singer Jessica Simpson taking the number eight slot.

Lindsay Lohan, who has recently completed a stint in rehab, made it to ninth place.

Actress Alison Arngrim, who starred in the US television series Little House on the Prairie as a child, rounded off the top 10.

Madonna, Barbra Streisand and Elizabeth Taylor all met with approval from Mr Blackwell, who also said Queen Elizabeth II had "managed to update her Stonehenge of style image".

Mr Blackwell, who began his career in the 1950s and had his own clothing line for 35 years, said 2007 stood out as one of the "most disastrous fashion years in recent memory".
