Dennis Hopper Actor and director Dennis Hopper will present this year's Turner Prize at next week's ceremony in Liverpool.

The Easy Rider star said he was "very honoured and excited" to be asked to the event, which takes place at the Tate Liverpool gallery on 3 December.

The prize was "the most prestigious in the art world" added Hopper, who is also a painter and photographer.

Zarina Bhimji, Nathan Coley, Mike Nelson and Mark Wallinger are the artists shortlisted for the prize.

The Turner ceremony and exhibition has moved to Liverpool for a year as a curtain-raiser for 2008's European Capital of Culture celebrations.

An exhibition of his photos is to open in Moscow, while he is working in an extensive film and art retrospective for the Cinematheque Francais in Paris, which is due to begin in October 2008.
