Kylie reveals 'anger' at cancer

Kylie Minogue Kylie Minogue has revealed how she channelled her "anger" as she went back to recording music in the studio after beating breast cancer.

The 39-year-old, who was diagnosed in 2005, co-presented the Jo Whiley show on BBC Radio 1 to publicise her forthcoming album, X.

"I think the anger came out as energy and I wanted to know that I could do what I had done before," she said.

"I kind of went nuts in the studio for a week which was cathartic," she added.

'Mammoth' goal

The singer said she was like a "bat out of hell" when she first got back in the studio.

"I just wanted to record anything and everything," she said.

Minogue revealed the album, released later this month, would have been very different had she not been ill.

"Now I know more than before that life isn't a straight road and it takes us on some unexpected turns and it's the experience that matters, and what you do with that," she said.

During her treatment she revealed one track on the album, No More Rain, was written "about what it might be like to be back on stage".

Minogue, who had been forced to pull out of Glastonbury in 2005 and also cancelled a world tour, said returning to the stage had been her goal during her recovery.

"It was a blessing in disguise to have one so mammoth," she said.

Minogue explained she was still taking medication.

"It can be a struggle but that's my path at the moment and it just makes me all the more appreciative about being here and having a job I love - and having all the support that I've had and that I do have," she said.

The first single from the album, 2 Hearts, made its debut at number 12.
