Suspended jail term for radio DJ

Andy Kershaw BBC Radio 3 DJ Andy Kershaw has received a suspended jail term after admitting harassing his former partner.

The 48-year-old presenter, who hails from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, was "heartbroken" after partner Juliette Banner started another relationship.

Kershaw, who now lives in the Isle of Man, was sentenced to three months in jail, suspended for 18 months, by the island's Courts of Justice.

High Bailiff Michael Moyle told Kershaw he did not want to make him a "martyr".

Kershaw admitted breaching a restraining order and driving under the influence of alcohol.

A Radio 3 spokeswoman said: "He is currently on a break from Radio 3 and we will be talking to him about his future in due course."

Ms Banner, who has two children with Mr Kershaw, was granted an order preventing him from approaching her home in Peel on 1 August.
