The key video they were shown during the trial was of the music producer's chauffeur being interviewed by police.

Adriano De Souza said he witnessed Mr Spector emerging from his mansion after actress Lana Clarkson's death allegedly saying: "I think I killed someone."

The jury has been deliberating since 10 September. Spector denies murder.

Stalemate

The other piece of videotaped evidence the panel saw during the trial was of a fountain in the courtyard where Mr De Souza waited for Mr Spector on the night in February 2003 when Ms Clarkson was shot dead.

Defence lawyers argued the noise of the fountain may have made it difficult for the Brazilian-born driver to clearly hear what the music producer was saying.

The jury told Judge Larry Paul Fidler on 18 September that it had reached a 7-5 deadlock.

Jurors resumed discussions on 20 September after revised instructions from the judge, and held further debates on Monday before asking the judge to further assist them to break their stalemate.

The jury had been instructed that, in order to convict Mr Spector, they had to find he had held the gun to Ms Clarkson's mouth before the fatal shot was fired, but this was withdrawn on a point of law.

The option of allowing them to consider the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter was also rejected in case it was seen as telling the jurors what to do.

The defence contends that Ms Clarkson killed herself. Mr Spector could face between 15 years and life in prison if convicted.
