French actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg is "out of danger" after emergency brain surgery, according to the clinic where she is being treated.
The 36-year-old had surgery to treat "a massive brain haemorrhage caused by a shock to the head", the Monceau Clinic in Paris said in a statement.
The statement described her condition as "excellent" and said she would leave intensive care "in the coming days".
The star had been suffering from headaches since a waterskiing accident.
The mother-of-two went to her doctor following the accident, which took place several months ago in the United States.
Premiere appearance
On Thursday, Gainsbourg's agent Dominique Segall said the star had been through "a minor operation to remove a small haematoma" - a mass of clotted blood on the brain.
Earlier this week, the daughter of late singer Serge Gainsbourg appeared at the Venice Film Festival for the world premiere of her latest film I'm Not There.
It is a biopic of folk icon Bob Dylan by US director Todd Haynes, in which she appears alongside stars including Richard Gere, Cate Blanchett and Julianne Moore.
One of France's most popular actresses, her previous credits include The Little Thief, Love Etc, The Science of Sleep and Jane Eyre.
