Rock 'n' roll pioneer Bo Diddley is still struggling to talk more than two weeks after he suffered a stroke.
But his manager said there were some hopeful signs of recovery as he has been humming and listening to country music on the radio.
The 78-year-old singer was taken ill after a concert on 13 May.
The spokesman said it was too early to tell how much therapy Diddley would need or whether he would recover enough to perform again.
Speech problems
The Grammy-winning songwriter and guitarist is in a hospital near his home in Gainesville, Florida, and has been receiving speech and occupational therapy.
Manager Margo Lewis said: "His problem is only in getting out the words sometimes, and in understanding.
"I think it happens more when he's tired or excited."
She added that Diddley was expected to spend another two weeks in hospital.
