US rapper arrested over 'threats'

Rapper 50 Cent fell out with The Game, accusing him of disloyalty

Profile: The Game

The Game US rapper The Game has been arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats following a three-hour search of his Californian home by police officers.

His detention was related to an event which had taken place in February, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

But she gave no further details as to the investigation into the 27-year-old, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor.

He was freed after police bail was set at $50,000 (£25,000).

"I want to say that I'm not guilty, and I love California," he told a film crew outside his home.

A protege of rapper 50 Cent, who was championed by respected hip-hop producer Dr Dre, The Game was sued for defamation last year by five police officers who arrested him 2005.

The policemen said the musician libelled and slandered them by claiming to have been treated in a manner similar to Rodney King, whose beating by officers led to riots in Los Angeles 15 years ago.

The matter remains unresolved.

The Game was also arrested in New York last November.

Authorities claimed he told a taxi driver that he was an undercover police officer and then persuaded him to go through a number of red traffic lights.
