Catherine Tate DVD 'sets record'

Tony Blair and Catherine Tate (Photo: Paul Randall / Comic Relief Ltd) A DVD of Catherine Tate's Comic Relief sketches has recorded the most advance orders in the history of Amazon.co.uk, the internet retailer has said.

Her characters appeared in a variety of scenes with Doctor Who star David Tennant, Prime Minister Tony Blair and Deal or No Deal quiz host Noel Edmonds.

Although the DVD is not released until 16 April, Amazon claimed "thousands" of people had already reserved it.

At least 60% of the £5 price will go towards the fundraising appeal.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate "We saw a surge of demand for the DVD on Friday night whilst the sketches were being shown on BBC One," said Amazon's Rakhi Parekh.

"If sales continue at this rate, this may well be our biggest-selling DVD of all time."

Tate's stroppy schoolgirl Lauren was seen taking a cup of tea to the prime minister before embarking on a conversation with him as he worked at 10 Downing Street.

Lauren also recited Shakespeare to Tennant, who was playing a supply teacher, and her character Nan took part in a spoof edition of Deal or No Deal with Edmonds.
