Shrek sequel holds UK box office

Shrek The third Shrek movie, featuring the voices of Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz, has kept Die Hard 4.0 off the top of the UK and Ireland box office.

The animated sequel took £5.08m to spend its second week at number one.

Die Hard 4.0, starring Bruce Willis in the fourth instalment of the franchise, debuted at number two, with takings of £5m, including previews.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer slipped from second to third, and Ocean's 13 fell one to four.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End also fell one spot, with takings of £366,425 in its seventh week on the chart.

Horror films dominated the latter part of the top 10 with sequel Hostel II at six.

Motel-based horror Vacancy, starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson, fell two places to ten, with thriller Tell No One up one place to nine.

Bollywood family drama Apne stayed put at number seven, while La Vie en Rose, a biopic of the late French singer Edith Piaf, fell two places to eight.

The latest Harry Potter film, The Order of the Phoenix, is expected to take over the number one spot next week, following its release on Friday.
